Cambridge Just Ranked Ethereum's Energy Use Among Proof-of-Stake Chains — Here's Where It Landed

A new study from Cambridge has evaluated the energy intensity of various Proof-of-Stake blockchains and found that Ethereum sits near the lower end of the spectrum. The findings add academic weight to Ethereum's post-Merge narrative as an energy-efficient network compared to both its former Proof-of-Work model and other PoS competitors.
WHY IT MATTERS
Think of blockchain energy use like comparing different types of cars. Bitcoin's old system (and Ethereum's former system) was like a gas-guzzling truck — it used a lot of energy to operate. Proof-of-Stake is more like an electric car — much more efficient. What this Cambridge study found is that among all the 'electric cars' (PoS blockchains), Ethereum is one of the most fuel-efficient. This matters because big investors and governments increasingly care about environmental impact. If a respected university says Ethereum is green, it makes it easier for large institutions to invest in it and harder for regulators to penalize it on environmental grounds.
