Kraken Now Accepts HYPE and XAUT as Collateral — Here's What That Means for Traders

89d ago · 1 source

Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has added Hyperliquid's HYPE token and Tether Gold (XAUT) as accepted collateral currencies on its platform. This means traders can now use these assets to back margin positions instead of having to convert them into other tokens first.

WHY IT MATTERS

Think of collateral like a security deposit when you rent an apartment — it's what you put up to prove you can cover your obligations. In crypto trading, when you want to borrow funds to make bigger trades (called margin trading), you need to lock up some of your existing assets as collateral. Previously, Kraken only accepted certain tokens for this purpose. Now, by adding HYPE (a token from the Hyperliquid decentralized exchange) and XAUT (a token backed by real physical gold), traders have more options. It's like a bank suddenly accepting gold bars or stock certificates as collateral for a loan, instead of only cash. This makes the trading experience more flexible and could make these tokens more valuable since they now have an additional use case.
